We are Gamers!

This week we spent time working with PyGame.  After learning about it and creating an example game, we were let loose to create our own.  On Friday, we presented our PyGame projects.  Below you will see our presentations and demos.  Congratulations the Faculty Choice Award winners Erin and Paul for their game "Magical Maze" and to the People's Choice Award winners David and Carter for their game "Battleship."

How to play -  Control the snake using up,down,left, or right arrow keys to either avoid hitting the border or the obstacles (didn’t have enough time to finish collision with obstacles) or colliding with the fruit to increase length and earn points.

Sam and Shane - Battle through the Lands

How to play - Use the right and left arrow keys to move and the up arrow key to jump to get to the flag without touching enemies or obstacles.

How to play - Press TAB on intro screen for detailed instructions. Repl.it might do weird stuff with the screen zoom, just try again.

How to play -  Use the up, down, right, and left arrow keys to control the Pacman. Avoid the obstacles (walls and ghost), and reach the flag to win. Gain points by collecting coins.

How to play -  Use arrow keys to move. Don’t touch the walls on the maze or you will be reset. Try to reach the flag. Once you reach the flag on the second level you win.

How to play - Start by running the game and maneuver the bird through each pipe by clicking the SPACE bar. Your goal is to get through as many pipes as possible without falling to the floor and crashing into the pipe. Enjoy!!!

Austin and Taylin - Multiplayer Flappy Bee

How to play - Bee 1 is controlled by space bar while Bee 2 is controlled by the w-key. Attempt to pass through each crevice without touching the logs. To play again, simply press enter. Hope you enjoy! :)

Guest Lecture - Machine Learning

On Friday, Professor Sanjoy Dasgupta guest spoke about machine learning and how a computer can determine handwritten numbers. For example, the post office uses software which has to determine the addresses written on an envelope. However, not everyone writes the number 5 exactly the same. Some may curl more that it could be considered by a computer as the number six. There are different algorithms that can be used to most effectively and accurately determine the values.  Similar algorithms can be use to make connections/relationships between other things such as analogy problems (king is to queen as man is to ?).
